our impact

We all benefit when we’re kind and compassionate. The community becomes stronger and people thrive. That’s why we deliver beautiful bouquets of recycled flowers to those struggling with injury, illness, and the aging process.

Random Acts of Flowers makes real impact in the community. Whether we’re improving people’s health and well-being through flower deliveries or recycling flowers and vases that would have gone to the landfill, our work results in real and lasting change.

the healing power of flowers

Random Acts of Flowers’ mission is to bring moments of kindness in the form of a beautiful floral bouquet. Our recipients’ joy is enough to justify our work, but these deliveries have also been clinically proven to have a positive effect on health and well-being.

A study conducted by the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine confirms the positive impact that deliveries from Random Acts of Flowers have on the emotional wellness of medical patients.

  • Almost 95% of respondents self-reported that the unexpected delivery from Random Acts of Flowers improved their overall emotional wellness, with 73.5% reporting “extreme improvement.”
  • 81.1% of respondents reported they had not received other gifts of flowers outside of the Random Acts of Flowers delivery.
  • 11.3% of the sample said our volunteers were the only visitors they had during their hospital stay.
The Science Behind Flower Power

sustainable solutions

Flowers are used or given for a purpose; celebration, love, condolences, or perhaps as just a gesture of goodwill. But what happens to most flowers after their initial use is long gone? Sadly, many flowers get tossed in the trash or are left to wilt away. Our organization is dedicated to changing that pattern by “repurposing” flowers and turning them into meaningful moments of kindness and compassion. Random Acts of Flowers doesn’t stop its “green” initiatives with just repurposing flowers. RAF recycles and reuses every part of the donated flower arrangements including ribbons, wire, foam, buckets, baskets, vases, moss, and stands. Each floral element is “upcycled” into new beautiful bouquets.

All donated flowers and arrangements are broken down into their core elements with every flower getting a fresh cut, new water and minerals before rearranged into a new, beautiful bouquet nestled in a recycled vase or basket. RAF’s vase recycling program alone keeps a tremendous number of containers out of landfills. The recycling process

continues from there, with all discarded, wilted flowers and clippings composted and poured back into the community.

At the conclusion of Random Acts of Flowers’ recycling and repurposing efforts, the most important thing happens: a patient in an area healthcare facility is delivered a bouquet of flowers and offered encouragement, support and a moment of kindness and compassion. Taking others’ trash and turning it into “personable treasure” is the heart of Random Acts of Flowers’ mission.

a partner in the floral community

Random Acts of Flowers is a strong partner with the floral industry. Since its founding, RAF has worked closely with floral professionals to utilize waste in a productive and meaningful way. Keys to our successful floral relationships:

  • RAF isn’t competing for a florist’s customer base and never substitutes for a florist. Patients served by the charity include; people who wouldn’t normally receive flowers, are forgotten about, haven’t had a visitor or is in great need of a floral “pick me up.”
  • RAF is using what’s already sold (or unsellable) in the floral marketplace. Our charity focuses on gathering used, donated flowers that are destined for the garbage to recycle them for another purpose.
  • RAF shares with florists! With each floral or vase donation, Random Acts of Flowers sorts through what materials are usable for our mission. Items that we are not able to reuse (oasis cages, floral easels, large vases) are donated to local florists and KARM.
  • RAF is a key referral source to area florists. Donors, supporters & volunteers continuously ask RAF for advice on working with floral professionals. We are happy to refer and promote partner florists to build a stronger industry.

testimonials

Your floral delivery did make a REAL impact on me! After an accident breaking my hip, I was a bit discouraged and depressed. I knew the Lord was watching over me but I asked him to please send some angels to cheer me up! You are most certainly my angels, doing God’s work…Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
